Craft (Int., Taken Individually)

To quote the Player's Handbook 3.5 p70, "A Craft skill is specifically focused on creating something.  If nothing is created by the endeavor, it probably falls under the heading of a Profession skill (page 80)".  This has to be one of the most common mistakes in DnD.  I see character sheets all the time with Craft skills as both crafts and professions or totally mixed up, and worst of all, I don't always catch it.

 

I've created these skill re-definitions almost solely for these skills, but of course skills are just one more area for customization.

Alchemy

Normal-----Mundane Alchemical liquids and items

Example----Acids, Poisons, Alchemist's Fire, Tindertwigs, Thunderstones

Upgrades---Brew Potion Feat - allows magical potion and capsule crafting

Synergies--+2 related appraise checks

 

Armor-smithing

Normal-----Mundane Armor and Shields

Example----Armor, Shields, and Masterworks

Upgrades---Craft Magic Arms and Armor Feat - allows magical armor and shields crafting

Synergies--+2 related appraise checks, +2 craft (blacksmithing) checks

 

Barding

Normal-----Riding gear and armor for steeds and beasts of burden

Example----Saddlery, gear packs, armor and shoes

Upgrades---Craft Magic Barding Feat - allows magical barding crafting

Synergies--+2 related appraise checks, +2 craft (blacksmithing) checks

 

Basic Crafts

Normal-----General crafts and fine touches to add value to pieces.

Example----Basketweaving,Bookbinding, and weaving, plus sowing, engraving, and inlays

Upgrades---Craft Wonderous Item Feat - allows creation of related magical wonderous items

Synergies--+2 related appraise checks, +2 craft (Fine Arts, Carpentry) checks

 

Blacksmithing

Normal-----anything that requires working metals into specific shapes

Example----tools, nails, rings, bolts, and bullets

Upgrades---Craft Arms and Armor Fear - allows magical bolts and bullets crafting
-----------Craft Wonderous Item Feat - allows creation of related magical wonderous items
-----------Forge Ring Feat - allows magical ring crafting

Synergies--+2 related appraise checks, +2 craft (armorsmithing, bowmaking, locksmithing, shipmaking, trapmaking, weaponsmithing) checks with metal materials

 

Bowmaking

Normal-----Ranged weapons and certain ammunitions

Example----Bows, composite bows, arrows, slings

Upgrades---Craft Magic Arms and Armor Feat - allows magical ranged weapons and ammunitions crafting

Synergies--+2 related appraise checks

 

Carpentry

Normal-----In this instance, it can be any wood-working efforts, as well as standard carpentry and building

Example----furniture, house-building, wood-based tools or parts

Upgrades---Craft Wonderous Item Feat - allows creation of related magical wonderous items

Synergies--+2 related appraise checks, +2 craft (armorsmithing, barding, bowmaking, Cobbling, shipmaking, trapmaking, weaponsmithing) checks with wooden materials

 

Cobbling

Normal-----making shoes

Example----Shoes of all shapes and sizes, exept those for steeds, such as horseshoes

Upgrades---Craft Wonderous Item Feat - allows creation of related magical wonderous items

Synergies--+2 related appraise checks, +2 craft (carpentry, leatherworking) checks

 

Fine Arts

Normal-----Major artistic endevours

Example----painting, calligraphy, pottery, sculpting, drawing

Upgrades---Craft Wonderous Item Feat - allows creation of related magical wonderous items

Synergies--+2 related appraise checks, +2 craft (basic crafts, carpentry) checks, +2 forgery checks

 

Gemcutting

Normal-----cutting rough gems into fine gemstones, and crafting them into jewelry

Example----cut gemstones, jewelery

Upgrades---Craft Wonderous Item Feat - allows creation of related magical wonderous items

Synergies--+2 related appraise checks, +2 craft (blacksmithing) checks to create rings

 

Leatherworking

Normal-----Leather clothes and items

Example----clothing, belts, pouches, bags, pelts, hides

Upgrades---Craft Wonderous Item Feat - allows creation of related magical wonderous items

Synergies--+2 related appraise checks, +2 craft (basic crafts) checks to create leather-bound books, +2 craft (armor-smithing, barding, cobblery) checks with leather materials

 

Locksmithing

Normal-----creating locks and seals

Example----Safes and locks of various quality

Upgrades---Craft Wonderous Item Feat - allows creation of related magical wonderous items

Synergies--+2 related appraise checks, +2 open lock checks

 

Shipmaking

Normal-----Creating boats and yachts of all types.

Example----Keelboats, Battleships, Sailboats

Upgrades---Craft Wonderous Item Feat - allows creation of related magical wonderous items

Synergies--+2 related appraise checks, +2 craft (carpentry) checks

 

Stonemasonry

Normal-----building with bricks and mortar

Example----stone houses, walls, forts, bridges, and tunnels

Trapmaking

Normal-----building and rigging traps

Example----Mechanical traps and rigs
